In spite of having better hardware, it still performs poorly against a weaker chip. Almost makes it seem like they dropped the performance intentionally.

Anonymous, 22 Jul 2019But when I check gaming tests. Kirin 980 destroys exynos Do you have a source? I think that is not possible (though I would like to be corrected if I am wrong).
Exynos uses Mali-G76 MP12. And Kirin 980 uses Mali-G76 MP10 (as per GSMArena specs page). As you see they are using the EXACT SAME core architecture but Exynos has 2 more cores, which will directly translate to better GPU performance (most GPU related tasks are multi-threaded tasks). No amount of software optimization can compensate for the two core hardware difference.imho.
Dude , 22 Jul 2019Too little too late. Overpriced and dated already.compare to what dude?

Anonymous, 22 Jul 2019Some people will complain why not amoled. But IPS is much more durable. Better colors or more ... moreexactly. most of the people doesn't even understand which tech for display they should go for. a top of the line IPS is as good. maybe the black is not as good as oled but brightness makes up for that. websites like gsmarena and their reviewers should share part of the responsibility to praise some stuff like bezelless displays, prefer oled over ips. I personally would prefer a display with thin bezels and a great ips over mediocre oled. even though people coming to read about tech stuff on this websites and feel that they are tech savvies, most of them just blindly follow what this websites or their reviewers say.

BUT, Honor/Huawei at present, don't have a better chipset than the 980.
So it has to be called "Huawei's" flagship chipset. Even though it is outperformed by upper-midrange SD730 after an hour of sustained intensive activity like gaming or heavy processing. Might suit 'em casuals/average Joe's.
I personally stick with SD 8xx series(SD855 as of now), or A-series if the rest of the device is good. But 99% it is SD8XX. I also appreciate Exynos processors, a little more QC and they can match the top tier performances of SD855.
Looking at the throttling results of Kirin 980 under sustained load (only 60% performance after one hour) as per GSMArena tests, I think it is officially incorrect to call Kirin 980 a flagship chipset, right?

Flagship/Luxury qualifier: IP68 protection and/or User Removable Battery, and the Best Processor QSD 855/Kirin 980/Exynos 9820, and Great Camera. Usually demands a premium price ($600 or above).
Upper Midrange/High-end qualifier: Best processor QSD 855/Kirin 980, but no IP68 protection or User Removable Battery, and Good-Great Camera. Usually priced sensibly ($300 or above).
Midrange qualifier: Any processor from the slowest QSD 636 to the fastest QSD 730, with a Good Camera. Usually priced affordable ($150 or above).
Low-end qualifier: Cheap but functional, great for kids or poor populations. Usually priced cheap ($80 or above).
Entry-grade qualifier: Even cheaper and less capable, basically landfill. Price not a factor.
Some people will complain why not amoled. But IPS is much more durable. Better colors or more durable. Choice is yours. And don't forget about amoled burn in as it will happen for sure.
I appreciate that, but please work on that 20, which actually matters for most of us.
Yes, Redmi K20 Pro. Please work on its review.
